At Reza Chiropractic, we know that proper hydration plays a major part of any healthy diet.  Its common knowledge that you should try to drink 8 glasses of water a day, however, we’ve found that many people don’t know what contributes towards that total.  Many fear that they need to give up their favorite drinks like coffee and tea and instead only drink water.  Don’t pour that cup of Joe down the drain yet though!  There’s a chance you’ll still be able to keep your favorite beverage in your daily routine while still staying hydrated.

The Coffee Myth

Contrary to popular belief, recent studies have found that coffee doesn’t dehydrate you, it actually adds to your daily water consumption since coffee is over 95% water.   At Reza Chiropractic, we feel the bigger issue to your health is instead what you add into your cup of Joe.  Our Bozeman nutrition experts recommend against adding sugar, milk, or cream as they greatly increase the calorie count and fat content of the beverage, which can contribute to weight gain.  Try sticking to black coffee for the best nutritional value.  Who knows?  You may actually like the taste!

How to Hydrate

Even the staff at our Bozeman office would tire of drinking solely water or coffee for hydrating.  Thankfully, the good news is that many refreshments and even some foods add to your daily fluid intake.  In addition to coffee, liquids such as tea, sports drinks, juices, and carbonated beverages do hydrate you.  Similar to coffee however, you’ll still need to pay to the amount of sugar and other additives in these drinks.  Another tasty and easy way to hydrate is by eating fruits and vegetables; snacks like watermelon, strawberries, and cucumbers are all examples of great tasting foods full of water along with important vitamins and minerals.
